The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative, supportive fellowship and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
Immanuel’s UMW has met the “5 Star Giving” program for many years, which involves a district pledge to missions, a gift to missions in recognition of someone we want to recognize for a special occasion or their commitment to the church, a gift in memory, a special mission recognition, and a yearly world thank offering.
Immanuel’s UMW provides scholarship money for camping programs. We provide clothing, household items, paper products, etc for our area shelters as well as monetary support.
Our local unit holds a bake sale twice a year to raise funds for missions. We host Wednesday evening suppers during Lent. We will be holding a luncheon in May for all women and young ladies of the church. Our regularly scheduled meetings are held monthly from September through May, with the May meeting being a one day spiritual retreat. Our local unit officers and any interested women attend our quarterly district meetings.
All women who are members of UMW can be involved in many ways with service in their local group, the district organization, and the Minnesota conference of UMW.
Who can join?
All women of the church are invited to be members of their local unit.
How to join:
Any woman interested in joining the UMW can contact their church UMW president and inform her of their desire to join. They can then attend one of the UMW meetings and request membership. There are no dues or fees collected, however we do take an "offering" each month and have special designated offerings which all go to various mission projects designated through the Conference.
If you have any questions about joining UMW or learning more about their mission, contact the IUMC office at 763-420-2585 or Linda Gleason at 763-424-1080.
